Humanity needs healing. This is as true today as it ever was, and the need for healing is as desperate as any time in history. Even though medicine has accomplished much in fighting disease, we find that there are still diseases which medicine cannot touch, which are both temporary and life threatening. There is no cure for the common cold, and there is no cure for AIDS. There has never been a cure for any virus, and it does not look like there will be anytime soon. And viruses touch just the tip of this iceberg of human suffering.

In response to these facts, we desire to offer a hope for healing. At The Gathering, our idea of healing includes the heart, as well as the body. The Psalmist wrote, "He heals the broken hearted...." Psychology has attempted to bring solutions to the problems of our thoughts and emotions, but despite the fact that we spend billions upon psychiatric services each year, we seem to remain a violent and depressed nation. Such is the story of the newspaper headlines we read. Yet, at The Gathering we remain confident, that there is hope for our hearts as well.

The three simple ideas: Family, Prayer, and the Power of God, are the root of our hope for healing.

We believe that Family is a natural healing unit established by God. It has the ability to heal the boo-boos of the heart like no other power on earth. By working to establish a "family atmosphere," and even attempting to fulfill the scripture which says, "he sets the solitary in families," we believe that we can lay the foundation for a quality of life which brings healing to the hurting, and hope to the hopeless.

Prayer, of course, is a basic discipline of the Christian life. We believe that prayer is heard by God, Who then moves with mercy to respond to that prayer. We do not have an answer to the age old question on why some people are healed and some are not, rather, we live by a more simple rule: Jesus often healed all who came to Him. We will contend for the same results today. If it doesn't happen that way, we will still continue to believe God is able and willing to heal.

Family and Prayer are the small part which we can do in this equation of healing. Ultimately, God is in control, and it is that Power of God which brings about results. So, we will continue to trust in God Who has the power and the desire to bring wholeness to the broken, healing to the sick, and help to the needy.

There are testimonies, which tell of the story of God's healing power. He has driven away sickness, and soothed the troubled heart.
